A cover, a bed, and one stubborn idea

We started with one cover, in one size, after two mattresses in three years came to a bad end. The first version worked and sounded terrible. Fixing that took longer than making the thing in the first place, and it taught us the rule the SafeRest house still runs on: a cover you take off is a cover that protects nothing.

The range today is 50 covers across 9 bed sizes. Some of it is five-sided and fitted, some of it zips closed on six sides, and a small part of it is quilted to add some give to a mattress that has gone flat. We keep all three because they solve different problems, and we say on every page which problem the cover in front of you is for.

Testing here is domestic rather than technical. A sample sleeps in our own beds for a month and goes through the wash six times before it joins the range. That tells us about noise, about heat, and about the elastic, which are the three things people write to us about. It tells us nothing about laboratory numbers, and so we publish none.

Waterproof, on our pages, describes a backing layer and nothing more: liquid on the face does not reach the mattress. It says nothing about a spill running off the edge, and nothing about humidity. Where a health question comes up, we go to the public guidance, quote it exactly, and print the date we read it beside the link.

Prices on this site are updated on a schedule rather than the moment they move, and the date of the last update sits at the foot of every page. If a cover is out of stock with our retail partner, its page comes down until it returns, because a page for something you cannot buy wastes your time.

Payment, delivery and returns happen with that retail partner at checkout, not with us. Write to the address in the footer and a person here reads it: we can talk about fit, depth, materials and washing, which is the part we know.
